vspPanel's main role for voip is to allow you to create and bill customers through an easy to use web interface. Unlike many packages which are simply designed to be PBX's for Asterisk, vspPanel is designed to run an entire VOIP Service. Hence you are going to want to add customers to your VSP.

Adding customers is a simple process in vspPanel which is mainly automated, the only information you need to supply is "billing" and settings information.

Setting up your first customer

There are a few things to note when you setup your first customer, the main thing being the number (username) they are going to be assigned. When vspPanel was initially setup a number range was setup for usernames, this number range is added to every time you add a user to the system and becomes the username for the user you are adding. With that said, heres how to add a new customer:

1) Click on "Add Account" under the Accounts menu on the left side.

2) Fill in the standard details in the form such as first name, last name, etc.

3) You will now need to choose the users protocol and codec settings. This section is where the work you have done in previous menus by setting up your routes, billing packages and protocols comes into play. Following this getting started tutorial you should only have one route and one billing package, simply make sure these are chosen in the drop-down menu. These can be changed later from the "Edit Account" menu if you decide to add more routes / providers.

4) At this stage you won't have to enter any payment details, this is for post-paid accounts and accounts not using a service such as paypal or similar.

5) Click on the Create Account Button and the user will be created.

Ok, so it's created, now what?

So you have successfully created a user but you don't know where it is or what you have done. The first thing you need to do is find it, to do this simply do the following:

1) Click on "Show All Accounts" on the accounts menu.

You should now see your new user. To find our more information about the user you just created click on the "Edit" icon next to the users name in the show all accounts menu.

I want to connect to my server now using this user, how do I do it?

The final step in creating a new customer is to connect to the customer account using your software phone or similar. Before you can do this however you will need the username and password for the customer. To get this make sure you are in the edit account menu for this customer (by clicking the icon in the image above) and go down to the username / password section. Here you will find your username and password the system has provided for this customer.

Then all you need to do is use your software phone such as "Zoiper" or "XLite" to connect to your server using the username and password provided and the IP address or Domain name of your server as the SIP Server address. All calls you make using your software phone should then be sent out using the provider you added previously.

Please make sure the users "allowed codecs" are also the ones that are allowed in the software phone you are using. Note: GSM is usually a safe bet.
